Bookmarks, reading or archiving?

Start with what you do with a link after you save it. If you mostly want to find it again, a bookmark manager is enough: linkding is the fastest and lightest, Shiori adds a readable copy of the page. If you save articles to read later, wallabag and Readeck strip each page down to the text and images and keep it offline on your phone or e-reader.

If you are worried about pages vanishing, choose an archiver. Linkwarden keeps a screenshot, a PDF and a readable copy of everything you bookmark, and ArchiveBox goes further, saving several formats of each page so it survives even when the site does not.

Moving from a service that closed

Most of these apps import a standard browser bookmarks file, and several also import from Pocket and similar services: wallabag from Pocket, Instapaper and Pinboard, Linkwarden from Pocket, Omnivore and wallabag. Export from your old service first, then use the app's own import screen once your instance is running.

What it costs

linkding, Shiori, wallabag and Readeck run on the Lite plan, US$1.10 a month in Poland or US$1.50 in Sydney. Linkwarden and ArchiveBox start on Standard, US$1.70 a month in Poland, because saving full page copies takes a browser and more memory. Saved pages count towards your plan's storage, and you can add 25 GB blocks from the panel. New accounts start with $5 of credit, no card needed.
