SynapseWhat you're getting
Synapse is the most widely used server for the Matrix protocol: the engine behind rooms, direct messages, file sharing, voice and video calls and end to end encrypted chat. You create the accounts, people sign in with any Matrix client on phone, web or desktop, and your conversations and files live on a server of your own instead of someone else's platform.
On CoreHost, Synapse runs with its own PostgreSQL database, hosted in Sydney or Poland. Registration is closed, so only people you create accounts for can use the server, and the administrator account is created with a generated password you can read on your app page. Federation, which lets your server talk to other Matrix servers, is off until you switch it on.
You manage accounts from the Console tab: type adduser followed by a name and the server prints a generated password to hand over. We handle the server, TLS, PostgreSQL, updates and daily backups.

Moving to CoreHostMove your existing Synapse here
Already running Synapse on PikaPods, a VPS or your own server? You can bring your data with you. Deploy the app here first, then follow the route below, and keep your old app until you are happy.
Tell us what you are moving
Tell us which app you are moving and where it runs now, and we will say whether it can be moved by copying files, with the app's own export, or whether starting fresh is simpler.
Ways to move it
- Do it yourself. Deploy Synapse, let it start once, then use the steps on this page, with SFTP and the file manager in the Files tab. A backup taken first gives you a clean point to go back to.
- Ask us to move it. Open a ticket from your control panel with the app and where it runs now. Support will tell you what can be moved and help you do it, and nobody touches your old app.
Coming from PikaPods? Switch on SFTP in the pod's settings, stop the pod and copy its files; PikaPods documents this as its manual backup for migrations.
