ntfyWhat you're getting

ntfy is a push notification server. Pick a topic name, send a message to it with curl or any tool that can make an HTTP request, and every device subscribed to that topic gets the push straight away. There is no SDK to install: if something can run curl, it can send you a notification. Messages can carry titles, priorities, tags, action buttons and file attachments, and delivery can be scheduled for later.

On CoreHost your ntfy is private from the first start. Access control is on and every topic is closed: nothing can be published or read without signing in, sign-up is switched off, and an admin account with a password generated for you exists before the app first starts. You add more users, limit each one to the topics you choose, and create access tokens for your scripts. The official Android and iPhone apps and the web app all work with it.

Already run ntfy somewhere else? You can bring your users, passwords, access tokens and messages with you by copying two files over SFTP. On CoreHost, ntfy runs with its own storage, hosted in Sydney or Poland, and we handle the server, TLS, updates and daily backups. ntfy is an independent open source project. CoreHost runs the official release and is not affiliated with it.

Replaces Pushover: a private alternative with no per-message fees and no app to register.

On CoreHost

  • Locked from the first start: every topic is closed until you sign in, and sign-up is off
  • Send a push from anything that can make an HTTP request, with a user name or an access token
  • Users limited to the topics you choose, and access tokens for scripts
  • Official Android and iPhone apps and a web app
  • Move an existing ntfy server over by copying its user and message databases
  • Hosted in Sydney or Poland, with daily backups; encrypted backups are stored in the EU

Included with every appStandard, not add-ons

Per-app firewall

Restrict access to the IP addresses you choose, with an Add my IP button. Off by default.

Backups to your own S3

Add encrypted, incremental backups to your own S3-compatible storage on top of the daily ones we include.

Moving to CoreHostMove your existing ntfy here

Already running ntfy on PikaPods, a VPS or your own server? You can bring your data with you. Deploy the app here first, then follow the route below, and keep your old app until you are happy.

Copy your files across

Copy user.db (your users, access rules and tokens) and cache.db (messages) into the data folder of the new app, and the attachments folder into the folder named attachments. Your old server.yml is not needed, because the settings on the app page replace it.

  1. Deploy ntfy on CoreHost and let it finish its first start.
  2. Stop your old ntfy. Download user.db and cache.db (and any matching -wal files next to them) and your attachments folder.
  3. Stop the new app from the control panel. In the Files tab, upload user.db and cache.db into the data folder and the attachments into the attachments folder.
  4. Start the app and sign in as one of your old users.

Check it worked. A private topic refuses you when you are signed out and works when you are signed in.

After the move

  • Change the server address in the ntfy apps on your phones and in every script or cron job that posts to the old address.
  • Browser web push subscriptions do not carry over: subscribe again.
  • Rules that opened topics to anonymous clients are dropped here, and a user with no access rule can read and write nothing until you grant it.

Ways to move it

  • Do it yourself. Deploy ntfy, let it start once, then use the steps on this page, with SFTP and the file manager in the Files tab. A backup taken first gives you a clean point to go back to.
  • Ask us to move it. Open a ticket from your control panel with the app and where it runs now. Support will tell you what can be moved and help you do it, and nobody touches your old app.

Coming from PikaPods? Switch on SFTP in the pod's settings, stop the pod and copy its files; PikaPods documents this as its manual backup for migrations.
