Excalidraw is the virtual whiteboard that made sketchy diagrams a feature. Rectangles, ellipses, arrows, freehand pen, text and connectors all render in a deliberately hand-drawn style that reads as work in progress rather than final spec, which is exactly why engineers and product people reach for it to sketch an architecture, wireframe a screen, or think through a flow. Shape libraries, dark mode and keyboard-first tools are built in, and boards export to PNG, SVG or a .excalidraw file you can re-open and edit later.
On CoreHost you get the official Excalidraw web app together with the project's own live collaboration server, hosted in Sydney, the US or Poland. Start a live session from the menu, send the link, and everyone in it sees changes and cursors as they happen. Messages are encrypted in the browsers, so your server relays them without being able to read them. Shareable links and the pictures in shared links and live sessions are stored on your instance, never on excalidraw.com, and we removed the analytics script from the page.
Excalidraw has no user accounts, so your instance is locked with an access password generated for you (the user name is excalidraw). Nobody can use your whiteboard, join a session through it or fill its storage without that password, and the people you draw with enter it once in their browser. You can switch to open access in the settings if you want a public whiteboard. We handle the server, TLS and updates, daily backups are included, and encrypted backups are stored in the EU.
Your own boards autosave to the browser you draw in, not to the server, and a live session is not saved on the server: it lasts while people are in it. Export a .excalidraw file for anything you want to keep. The AI diagram tools, the public shape-library browser and the Excalidraw+ links still use Excalidraw's own services when you choose to use them.

Already running Excalidraw on PikaPods, a VPS or your own server? You can bring your data with you. Deploy the app here first, then follow the route below, and keep your old app until you are happy.
Use Excalidraw's own import
Open each board on the old site, save it as a .excalidraw file, then drag the file onto the canvas here or use Open in the menu. Boards kept only in your old browser need exporting first, because browser storage does not follow a new address.
Ways to move it
- Do it yourself. Deploy Excalidraw, let it start once, then use the steps on this page, with SFTP and the file manager in the Files tab. A backup taken first gives you a clean point to go back to.
- Ask us to move it. Open a ticket from your control panel with the app and where it runs now. Support will tell you what can be moved and help you do it, and nobody touches your old app.
Coming from PikaPods? Switch on SFTP in the pod's settings, stop the pod and copy its files; PikaPods documents this as its manual backup for migrations.
