ByteStashWhat you're getting

ByteStash is a place to keep the code you keep reaching for: shell one-liners, config blocks, SQL queries, regular expressions and the small helper functions you copy between projects. Each snippet has a title, a description, categories and one or more files, shown with syntax highlighting. Search by title, content, language or category, pin the ones you use most, and bring back anything you deleted from the recycle bin.

When you want to show a snippet to someone, make it public or create a share link that can require a login or expire on a date you choose. Every account can create API keys for the REST API, and ByteStash also speaks the Model Context Protocol, so an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can search, read and save snippets in your library with one of those keys. Snippets move in and out as JSON files from the settings page.

On CoreHost, ByteStash runs the official release with its own storage, hosted in Sydney or Poland. Your instance starts with a private owner account and sign ups closed, so nobody else can claim it. We handle the server, TLS, updates and daily backups, and encrypted backups are stored in the EU. It runs comfortably on the Lite plan.

Replaces scattered gists and snippet notes: one private library you control instead of code spread across gists, notes and chat history.

On CoreHost

  • Public snippets and share links that can require a login or expire
  • REST API keys and an MCP endpoint for AI assistants
  • Locked by default: a private owner account, with sign ups closed
  • Import and export as JSON, plus SFTP access to the data folder
  • Hosted in Sydney or Poland, with daily backups; encrypted backups are stored in the EU

Per-app firewall

Restrict access to the IP addresses you choose, with an Add my IP button. Off by default.

Backups to your own S3

Add encrypted, incremental backups to your own S3-compatible storage on top of the daily ones we include.

Moving to CoreHostMove your existing ByteStash here

Already running ByteStash on PikaPods, a VPS or your own server? You can bring your data with you. Deploy the app here first, then follow the route below, and keep your old app until you are happy.

Use ByteStash's own import

ByteStash exports snippets as a JSON file and imports them again, so nothing is copied by hand.

  1. In your old ByteStash, each user opens Settings and exports their snippets as a JSON file.
  2. Deploy ByteStash on CoreHost and sign in with the owner login shown on the app page.
  3. Open Settings, Import Snippets, and pick the JSON file. Repeat for each user's file.

After the move

  • Share links and API keys belong to the old address, so they stop working. Create new ones.
  • Sign-ups are closed on a new app: create or enable accounts for your people.

Ways to move it

  • Do it yourself. Deploy ByteStash, let it start once, then use the steps on this page, with SFTP and the file manager in the Files tab. A backup taken first gives you a clean point to go back to.
  • Ask us to move it. Open a ticket from your control panel with the app and where it runs now. Support will tell you what can be moved and help you do it, and nobody touches your old app.

Coming from PikaPods? Switch on SFTP in the pod's settings, stop the pod and copy its files; PikaPods documents this as its manual backup for migrations.
